Digital Poetics with Lillian-Yvonne Bertram- November 2015
Lillian-Yvonne Bertram is a visiting poetry professor at St. Lawrence University, I was lucky enough to spend a little time with her Digital Poetics class and lead her students in some basic book binding 101 with the truly new age book, Between Page and Screen, by Amaranth Borsuk and Brad Bouse (betweenpageandscreen.com). It is a book that is no longer printed commercially, however, they have a digital file where you can print it out and bind the book yourself! How rad?
It's a fascinating concept, the relationship between the page and the screen, their conversation, their poetry, and the playful digital format of the text that is ever changing, spinning, flashing, built into an object- a truly interactive experience. It's not your typical book of poems. In an age of technology, this format brings together the hand crafted and labor intensive component which alots room for wrestling with the pages and sewing it together, not too tight, not too loose, and the very easy and high-tech component of using a computer to very easily read the words that are triggered by each abstract square image. Check out their website and have a look for yourself!
Thanks for taking a moment to listen, I really appreciate your time!
